Compare the2026 Kia EV6VS 2026 Jeep Recon

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Kia EV6 achieved a “Acceptable” rating - the second highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Jeep Recon has not been tested.

Both the EV6 and Recon have rear cross-traffic warning, but the EV6 has Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Recon’s Rear Cross Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the EV6 and the Recon have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The EV6 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Recon’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

Kia’s powertrain warranty covers the EV6 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Jeep covers the Recon. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Recon ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Kia vehicles are better in initial quality than Jeep vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia above average in initial quality. With 5 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jeep is rated lower.

Power ranks Kia above average in long-term dependability. With 6 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Jeep is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Jeep vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Kia 14 places higher in reliability than Jeep.

The EV6’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Recon’s standard 70 series tires. The EV6 GT-Line e-AWD’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the Recon’s 70 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the EV6 has standard 19-inch wheels. Only 18-inch wheels are available on the Recon. The EV6 GT-Line e-AWD offers optional 20-inch wheels.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the EV6’s wheelbase is 1.3 inches longer than on the Recon (114.2 inches vs. 112.9 inches).

For better maneuverability, the EV6’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the Recon’s (38.2 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

The Kia EV6 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1500 to 2000 pounds less than the Jeep Recon.

The EV6 is 8.5 inches shorter than the Recon, making the EV6 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The EV6 is 13 inches shorter in height than the Recon, making the EV6 much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The front grille of the EV6 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Recon doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The EV6 has 1 inch more front legroom and .5 inches more rear legroom than the Recon.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EV6’s rear seats recline. The Recon’s rear seats don’t recline.

The front step up height for the EV6 is 5.8 inches lower than the Recon (16.6” vs. 22.4”). The EV6’s rear step up height is 5.6 inches lower than the Recon’s (16.8” vs. 22.4”).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the EV6 easier. The EV6’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 28.6 inches, while the Recon’s liftover is 35.1 inches.

The EV6’s liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The Recon’s swing out door blocks loading from the driver’s side.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the EV6’s liftgate can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Recon doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its cargo door, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The EV6 GT-Line has a standard heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Recon doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

Both the Kia EV6 and Jeep Recon offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The EV6 features standard power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Recon’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

The EV6 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Recon doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

The EV6 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023. The Recon has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
